Story Eighty-Nine Ends August 9th
"Avast me mateys! We will find the treasure soon!" shouted Krewl de'Krawk, Captain of The
Dark Mirgle, to his crew. The shipmates huddled together in misery. They had been searching for the lost treasure of
The Black Pawkeet for months now. Tired and hungry, they desperately wanted to go home, but their fear of Captain Krewl kept
them in their place. However there was something they feared even more. They were worried what would happen if the infamous
Captain Bloodhook caught wind of what they were trying to do.
They all knew the tale of how Bloodhook's crew hid his treasure after he was knocked overboard in a storm, and how he had
survived and avenged himself on the crew. He still sailed the high seas of Neopia looking for his treasure, buried somewhere
around Krawk Island.
"He won't like it one bit," muttered a pirate Flotsam named Deadeye, "If he catches us huntin' for his treasure, it'll be
the end of us for sure."
"SHIP! SHIP! Starboard, on the far horizon!!" yelled the pirate Aisha from the crow's-nest.
Everyone ran to the edge of the ship. In the distance was a massive ship, it's skull and crossbones flag waving
in the wind...

...at least, that's what the Aisha had seen...
"What are you talkin' bout ya scurvy Aisha?!" screeched a white bearded Poogle. "Ya tryin' to stir up trouble?"
"Whatcha mean?!? You mean you can't see that ship out-" but the Aisha stopped talking immediately for the ship just disappeared.
"What's with all this talk and no work?" asked Krewl de'Krawk in a menacing voice. "You there! The Aisha! Come with me..."
The Aisha turned to de'Krawk. She stared at him with the utmost disgust. The little pirate was the only one bold enough to
even glance at de'Krawk with such abhorrence. But, nonetheless, the Aisha climbed down from the crow's-nest and followed de'Krawk
to the bottom of the ship. The last words her fellow crewmates heard from her was:
"You all will see... that ship was real and doom awaits you if you venture any farther..."
The Poogle that had dubbed her a liar shrugged off these words and took them for the ramblings of an insane and disgruntled pirate.
However, the rest of the crew was deeply shaken. They had all seen the look in the young Aisha's eyes when she stared at de'Krawk.
They all knew she was right, and feared for their lives.
However, they kept moving forward, awaiting their demise. And sure enough, an hour later, something struck The Dark Mirgle.
Many a pirate went running for the crow's-nest...

...and in the struggle to climb up, knocked each other down. Total chaos erupted.
Just then a Pirate Ixi named Ixix charged
forward.
"Stand aside! Lemme through!" he shouted, and everyone listened. Ixix was well known for his sharp temper.
He clambered up into the crow's-nest, which was hard going because of his hooves.
"Do ya see anything?" asked the anxious crew below.
"Nothing," he replied shaking his head. "Nothing! All I see is fog and water out to the horizon. Nothing but..." Suddenly, as
he was looking out, he hollered "Its-its a sh-ship! A gh-ghost ship! Its made from the fog itself!"
Everyone struggled to see, but to no avail. To them there was nothing.
Another jolt shook the ship, nearly tipping it over. The force knocked Ixix out of the crow's-nest where he struck his head
on the deck. For a moment he lay still, then he sat up and rubbed his head.
"Aye," barked the captain with annoyance in his voice, "Ghost ship, me wooden leg! That's the storm ye dotes!"
The young pirate Aisha, who had followed the captain, looked up. Sure enough, a storm had just rolled in. But that wasnt
what scared her. It was the fact it had been sunny only two minutes ago...

...and she knew from her experiences on the high seas that not even the swiftest storms emerge in less than two minutes.
The young pirate Aisha, whose name was Aishlan, glared at the captain, then turned to the rest of the crew.
"That makes two of us who have seen this ship. I refuse to stay here and get killed under our so-called 'captain's'
reign of foolishness! We have to quit searching for the treasure, or suffer the consequences." Aishlan spoke with icy
logic, her eyes boring into the captain's, then roving around to glare at her shipmates.
The crew fidgeted and shuffled their feet under Aishlan's harsh stare. Krewl de'Krawk had started to clomp toward her,
when all of a sudden a harsh screeching laughter tore through the air.
The crew ran to the stern of the ship. Nothing was there. The laughter rang out again, sending the crew scurrying to the
bow of the ship. For a full five minutes laughter resounded from all sides of the ship, driving the crew insane. They
couldn't figure out where it was coming from. A young Kacheek who had signed on to the crew just a few months before slumped
down against the side of the boat. Moments later the rest of the crew had followed his example and lay there motionless,
exhausted after chasing around a bodiless voice. Captain Krewl de'Krawk clomped over to them.
"Pathetic, the lot of ye! That's what ye all are! Ye're all hearin' things! There's no ghost, no ghost ship, and we are
going to find that treasure! Now up on your feet me hearties, we've got work t'do!" As the Captain had been speaking, he
had not noticed the looks of growing horror on the faces of his crew. For as he had been speaking, something unspeakably
horrid had risen up behind him. The young Kacheek let out a yelp of fear, and covered his eyes. Even the hardiest old
sailors shuffled back from the awful sight. The Captain growled deep in his throat.
"What are ye all lookin' at? Let's go!" The crew didn't move. "Argh, ye're a bunch of daffydills," he grumbled turning
around. De'Krawk noticed the shadow on the ground, before he heard the heavy breathing, or noticed the repugnant smell.
He looked up in horror and saw...

...the most hideous beast he had ever laid eyes on in his many years of sailing. It snarled and the smell of rotten eggs
and garlic filled the crews' nostrils. Its fiery red eyes bore into all of them, and then, to de'Krawk's horror, zoned
in on him.
"You thought you could escape me did you de'Krawk?" the horrible beast laughed. The crew cowered to the floor and held
their ears; the laugh sounded just like nails on a chalk board.
"B-B-B-Bloodhook! Um, of c-c-c-course not, friend, captain, s-s-s-sir!" de'Krawk's barely audible squeak replied. The crew
gasped.
"Captain called Bloodhook 'captain'!!!" Ixix muttered to the others.
"That's right, pirate Ixi..." Bloodhook said. Ixix looked up in horror. He didn't know how...
"Yes, I heard you, and I will
tell you why he dared to call me captain...
Long ago, when I was the most feared pirate sailing the seas of Neopia, de'Krawk
here was me first mate. We went everywhere together." At this point he stopped and stared at de'Krawk, who whimpered. "We
had treasure aboard, just after we had ransacked a trade ship, when a gale blew up. I had heard rumor that me ol' first
mate and friend had been tryin' to court the love of me life, Beauty the Acara. She was a beauty too..." he stopped for
a moment, a far off look in his eyes, then continued. "I didn't believe a word of it. That is, until de'Krawk met me on the deck
that night. He said, 'Captain, there is a loose board over on the side of the deck, can you check it out? Beauty is afraid
someone might fall out of the hole in the ship it will make if it breaks off.' I followed him to where the board supposedly
was, and before I knew it, he had pushed me into the merciless and raging sea! 'Why?', I cried, the salt water spray
racing into my open mouth."
'Why?!? Because,' he said, smirking, 'Beauty is mine, and the treasure is too!!!!!! All mine!!!!!
MINE!!!!!!!!' He laughed, and that was the last time I saw him."
"My body was gone, but I came back in spirit, and took every one of me old crew, but one managed to escape, and it has
haunted me. So I waited. I knew he would come back for the treasure, and now, I have him in my clutches... de'Krawk!
It is time for you to pay for your treachery!"...

...All the crew turned to see where de'Krawk was, but he had vanished.
"What the-" Captain Bloodhook saw de'Krawk run to a lower part of the ship.
"I hate it when I talk too much..."
Bloodhook said as he flew straight at de'Krawk, smashing the mast on the way.
"He's going to do whatever it takes to get the captain, and will most likely destroy the ship in the process,"
Aishlan muttered to herself. She ran after Bloodhook, taking out her sword.
Meanwhile, Bloodhook was smashing everything, looking for de'Krawk. "COME ON OUT, YOU COWARD!"
De'Krawk was in another
room close by, rummaging through a cabinet. "I kept it in here somewhere. Where could it be?" Right at that point,
the door smashed open, and the vengeful spirit of
Bloodhook zoomed through.
"You did escape many years ago, but now I shall have me revenge!"
"Not so fast Bloodhook, for I have this!" de'Krawk pulled out an object, having finally found what he was looking for.
Bloodhook gasped.
"It can't be..."

...The captain pulled out an amulet of ruby in a silver setting. When the sun shone throught it, it projected an
image of a map. This amulet also held all of Bloodhook's power.
It was the one map to the treasure, yet the captain knew that the only way to rid the world of Bloodhook forever
would be to destroy the amulet.
"Ye wouldn't dare!" screamed Bloodhook.
"Aye, mate, I may be greedy, but I'm not..."
Just at that moment, Bloodhook lunged across the table, knocking both de'Krawk and the amulet to the floor. While
de'Krawk tried to push Bloodhook off of him, the amulet went skidding across the floor, falling through a hatch at
the far end of the room.
Aishlan burst in and cried "Oh no! The map!"...

...Then she saw her captain and Bloodhook fighting and momentarily forgot about the map. She was more focused on de'Krawk.
His life was in her hands now.
She ran over to the flurry of fists, but was immediately thrown back by the sheer force of evil surrounding Bloodhook.
That's when it dawned on her that this was something de'Krawk had to do on his own.
Suddenly, a brilliant idea popped into her head. She would save her captain. She had to. She would go
through the hatch into which the amulet had fallen and destroy it. The plan had to succeed, otherwise the whole crew would be
in danger.
She ran over to the hatch and looked back at de'Krawk and Bloodhook fighting, feeling proud to be saving her captain.
After all those times he rewarded her and led the whole of his crew through thick and thin, it was time to return the
favour... this was her big chance.
Sticking her head into the hatch, all that could be seen was darkness. Breathing in the stale, musty air, Aishlan had
no idea how high up she was. She just had to take that chance. Gathering her courage she lowered herself into the hole...

...and dropped to the floor. She could feel the vibration from the fight above her. The dust made her sneeze, which
caused some rats to scatter across the room nearby. She looked around, and easily spotted a map on the wall.
"There it is!" she hurried toward it, but it was just a paper map, not a projected one. That was when, out of the
corner of her eye, she saw something sliding across the floor toward another hole.
"The amulet!" she gasped. Aishlan ran towards it, but the amulet had fallen into the hole. Below, there was nothing but the pounding sea. .
"Now I'll never get it," she said dismally. Suddenly, the amulet rose out of the water and landed in her paws.
"You are a brave young Aisha, trying to save de'Krawk," a kind voice said. "I am Beauty the Acara, and I have passed
away since the time of Bloodhook's demise. My true love was actually de'Krawk, for Bloodhook did not treat me well. He would
show me off like I was merely a toy, while de'Krawk would actually treat me as an equal. So take this amulet,
which I have raised to you with my supernatural powers, and smash it so that both captains can see you do so. Goodbye
Aishlan," Beauty's voice faded away.
Aishlan stood stunned for a moment, and then hurried to the room in which the captains were fighting.
When she got up to the room, an amazing sight was before her...

...The rest of de'Krawk's crew had come into the cabin to help their captain. However, they too realized that Bloodhook’s
evil presence was too strong for them, so they had backed against the wall. The two captains were on the floor rolling back
and forth.
"STOP!" Shouted Aishlan. To her amazement both captains stopped dead. "Now, Bloodhook," she said in a bold voice, "You
shall pay for your sins!" holding up the amulet. Bloodhook leaped for the amulet but de’Krawk and his crew held him
down.
Aishlan threw the amulet. It hit the wall, smashing into a thousand pieces that scattered all over the floor.
“Noooo!!!” Shouted Bloodhook. “You can’t...” but before he could finish he disappeared in a puff of green smoke that
smelt strongly of seaweed.
“But captain,” the pirate Poogle asked. “How will we ever find the treasure?”
“We won’t,” captain de’Krawk stated. “I set
out looking for the treasure because of greed but now I understand that my greed is what caused Bloodhook’s spirit to rise.”
After de’Krawk finished telling the rest of his crew what happened in the cabin, they listened to Aishlan tell how she had
found the amulet. The captain got a bit emotional when Beauty was mentioned. Then, the crew went to their quarters to
rest, for it had been one strange and unforgettable night aboard The Dark Mirgle.
