Red Knight says 'Welcome to our weaponry!'
In this gallery, you will find some of the most rare medieval weapons In all of neopia! We have weapons such as cannons, spears, bows, catapults, swords, shields and armour. In medieval times, cannons were used mainly to destroy building and ships and was sometimes used for dismembering men and horses. Cannons work by lighting the fuse at the top of the cannon which detonates the explosives inside and propels the cannon ball Catapults are very similar to cannons but date back much further. Catapult comes from the greek word 'Katapultos'. 'Kata means downward and 'pultos' referd to a small circular shield carried in battle. So this word was taken to mean 'shield piercer'. They were mainly used to destroy enemy buildings or to take over fortresses and other structures Spears date back to the time of the vikings. The spear was one of the more common weapons, consisting of a wooden staff and a sharp iron blade at the end. They varied in length; most were between 2-3 meters and were used for either thrusting or throwing Swords were also common but more expensive. They were usually double edged and roughly 90 cm long, however some were much longer. They were mostly made of iron and mostly use for man-to-man combat The battle axe was a later development between the 10th and 11th century. However the person who wielded a battle axe often could not hold a shield at the same time and had to stay behind the front line of fighters. This was also used for open combat much like the sword. Crossbows originated in China during the 4th century BC. But it wasn't until about the 11th century AD that the crossbow was a major military weapon. Crossbows and normal bows are used in pretty much the same way, but instead of holding the bow vertically, you hold it horizontally and place the bolt on the top. They were more accurate than normal bows and in the 17-19th centuries, sights were later implemented to increase accuracy Lastly shields, helmets and body armour was the main defence used by the fighters. They were usually made of metal or iron, but some shields were made of wood and leather. As advancements in technology were made, wood and leather shields became unreliable and were no longer used.
