It was simple in its appearance, but it would do. She approached the doors and knocked them firmly with her fist. She could hear footsteps before they could so much as touch the door. Settling the Blumaroo down, she unbound her wings quickly and took off into the night.
Handling Your Team’s Loss in the Altador Cup
We’ve all seen the results, and you can do the math: there are 18 Altador Cup teams out there representing the lands of Neopia, but only one can take home first place. That means, most of you out there can't claim to have that shiny new gold trophy adorning your lookup. As with any sports game, tension and emotions run high after the finale of the season, and many normally Cybunny-sweet Neopians have become fraught with disappointment after their AC loss this year.
For those unable to bear the frustration of losing, looking for helpful coping mechanisms, or just interested in the most effective ways to stay strong and support their team in the just-dawning post-season, I've compiled a list of the strategies I've found helpful in lessening the blow. "Mommy, why are we at the doctor’s house?" Alan wondered. The blue Shoyru looked around the crowded waiting room, swinging his legs as he watched an elderly Elephante wipe his runny nose with a tissue.
Mrs. Winston patted Alan’s head gently. "Now, be a good boy and we’ll be home before you know it," said the faerie Kau.
Brayden bounced excitedly on his mother’s lap. "Blafoofga!" the baby Shoyru cheered, shaking his rattle. "Ptoofy bata."
"When is Mr. Doctor coming?" asked Alan. "I’m hungry! Can we get pizza after we leave? I want pepperoni and cheese."
Patricia groaned. "Why did you drag me here, Mom?" the faerie Shoyru groaned, slumping down her seat. "I don’t need to see the doctor."
Mrs. Winston leaned to Patricia’s ear and whispered, "You know that I need you because of the ‘you-know-whats’." She bounced Brayden on her lap. "Besides, it won’t take long at all," she said cheerfully.
"What won’t?" asked Alan. "Are we getting new toys? Is that why we’re here?"
After escorting two blue Usuls to the waiting room, a tall green Gelert wearing a white medical coat examined his clipboard and, noticing the Winstons, greeted them with a friendly smile. "Please, follow me," said the doctor. "We’ll get started right away." |

Her name did not roll off the tongues of Neopians as easily as the other faeries’ do, yet she had no need of one to precede her. The mention of Fyora’s name carried power before the Queen could even make an appearance to the ones that uttered it, and Jhudora’s struck fear before a Neopian could stick a single foot into past barrier of her bluff.
Nuria was neither Fyora or Jhudora, good or bad. Nuria was a traveler of the Lost Desert, a Fire Faerie enacting justice when she saw it necessary and retreating into the shifting sands when it was not. Sometimes, this meant disbanding bandit groups or safely returning cargo stolen by common thieves – mercenary work without the pay. Sometimes it was administrative work, watching each town unnoticed to ensure that they had proper food and water for their residents. She readily admitted that she did not have the right to act as judge and jury for the Lost Desert. But without her, the desert was without a faerie’s protection. Faerieland’s inhabitants were tied up in preventing future attacks on their land, something that seemed to be happening more and more these days. Even those faeries not currently warding their homeland up to its ears found themselves occupied by becoming defenders of the entire world, their protection spread thin across Neopia’s continents. Nuria had to protect the Lost Desert. If something happened, help from the other faeries could be entirely too late. |

Queen Nera glanced up often from her painstaking work to watch King Altador and their teenage son, Alarick, play a competitive game of Yooyuball. The sport was a popular pastime in the great land of Altador. The game of passing a yooyu around and trying to make it in the other team’s goal excited any Altadorian. Even the king himself grew fond of the game. That same love for the game was passed down to his son, so they often played it together.
The elderly white Lupe and the young Xweetok were playing it out in the grassy fields of Altador, not far from Nera’s bench. The weather today had proven to be sunny as it always was. The nearby trees gave off a bit of shade, casting a cool shadow over Nera. It seemed like the perfect beginning to a hopefully perfect day. The queen kept her fingers crossed that today would be peaceful for once.
The endless fights of defending Neopia from ruthless villains tired even the mightiest of heroes. Every hero dreamed of the day they could retire in peace. Sadly, that may never happen as most villains refuse to change or give up. The biggest obstacle so far for the queen, was her work. It never seemed to stop. Once she would finish one thing, another would take its place. |
