Petpet Name: Topaz
Owner: dragonwolf8
Pet Name: _May___
Breed: Gold Mauket

About Topaz:
I’m Topaz, a gold Mauket. I may not be anything fancy but May loves me. This is my story...

"You'll never leave this desert and you know it!" the Sutekh teased as its new owner carried it out of the Petpet Stall. I sat in the back of my steel cage in the Petpet Stall in the Lost Desert and sighed. I wasn't like other Maukets; most of them were happy lazing around in the desert sun tanning their fur. I, on the other hand, wanted to explore Neopia, I wanted to go to a place that was the exact opposite of the Lost Desert. I wanted to go to the coldest place in Neopia, Terror Mountain!

"Goodnight..." Peopatra said with a yawn as she closed the stall door and left for the night. I shivered slightly. Night in the Lost Desert was almost as cold as Terror Mountain. I fluttered my wings as I walked up to the front of the cage and looked out beyond the steel bars. All of the Petpets in the cages around me were asleep. I stared at the door to the stall; the door was slightly open and it let in a cool breeze. "She must have forgotten to close it fully..." I muttered to myself. I then realised what I had just said... she left the door open! I had tried to escape once before, but the door had been tightly shut that time, so I had given up.

I reached a golden paw out of the bars and extended a claw to the lock. I stuck the shiny claw into the keyhole and fiddled with the inside of the lock. I closed my eyes and concentrated on the lock until I heard a satisfying click, then pushed the bared door open silently and snuck out of the cage. I padded up to the door and slid through the tiny opening. I was free.

I stretched my wings and launched into the crisp night air, flying high above the desert. I passed the Sakhmet City gates and stopped at the river just before Coltzan's Shrine. The moon reflected onto the river's clear water. I lapped up some water and stretched before setting off again.

I flew through storms and gales of wind after I left behind the desert's border. I didn't even know where I was anymore. After what seemed like days (it actually was!), I landed in a blur of white and felt the instant chill before my consciousness slipped away from me...

My eyes fluttered open. Amongst the chill I felt the comfortable warmth that I lay on. The warmth was so comfortable, and I was so tired, that I fell back to sleep.

Two glowing red eyes stared kindly at me as I woke up. Heat emanated from the Neopet in front of me. I opened my eyes fully to see the Neopet clearly. It was a magma Wocky. "Hello! Finally awake." she cooed. Her magma paw stroked my golden pelt. "My name is May," she said before beckoning toward a blue Lupe and declaring, "This is my sister Aurora." The Lupe smiled. A Kepru ran up to me and licked my ears. I struggled to my feet and realised that I was sore all over. "This is Amber; she's my Petpet," Aurora said.
After the introductions (which included meeting Wolf, May and Aurora's owner), May put me in a warm tub of water. After that she showed me around the tiny Neohome before letting me explore on my own.

That night I lay happily on May’s bed while everyone was asleep. The only sound was the ticking of a Gallion Clock and the crackle of a recently burnt out fireplace. I cocked my head. I knew I was in a Neohome, but where was I? I silently flew up to the window and sat on the windowsill. I nudged open the curtains with my snout and looked out the window. Before me, I saw white fields of snow and scattered trees. Amber jumped onto the windowsill next to me. "It's beautiful, isn't it..." she said quietly, not taking her eyes off the snow. She looked at me with azure eyes. At that moment I felt at home...
