Petpet Name: Polaris
Owner: carrotcakie
Pet Name: Lunebug
Breed: Wherfy

About Polaris:
It was a cold morning, as it always was in the little town next to Happy Valley.

The snowstorm was severe enough so that the locals stayed inside their warm homes and drank cocoa instead of playing outside with the snowballs and slushies. But this was perfect weather for Wherfies – those quick little petpets only came out of their burrows when it was snowing, after all.

Polaris was a cheeky one. She loved frolicking in the snow and tasting the snowflakes with her little pink tongue. She loved snow as much as she loved life itself! Her favorite pastime was leaping into piles of snow, burrowing as deep as she could and then leaping back into the new pile of snow from her furious digging.

It was during one of her burrows that she found him.

There was a tiny baby aisha buried deep in one of her snow piles. To her relief, he was still breathing softly and relatively unhurt, despite being sound asleep in the snow of the coldest storm of the year. Polaris brushed the snow out of the way with her padded paws, slowly uncovering more of the little kitten, who began to shiver.

She began to feel skittish. She was the playful type, not the type to know what to do with an abandoned baby neopet in the cold. She was too small to carry him by the scruff of his neck or drag him someplace warmer, but she knew she couldn't leave the poor dear behind... so Polaris gently curled up around his neck, wrapping her fluffy tail around like a scarf. Their combined heat was warm and soothing, so she eventually fell asleep as well.

He didn't wake up until the snowstorm ceased.
Moonlight was settling in when the aisha finally opened his eyes, shaking the snow loose from his eyelids and the top of his head. Polaris woke up from his movement and chirped in greeting, nudging his cheek with her nose. He blinked back at her curiously, looking very politely confused as he nudged her back. Thank you, it seemed to convey.

From that day on, the little aisha seemed determined to return the favor. He spent his days playing in the snow piles with Polaris, indulging her in her snowball fights and finding snacks like ice lollies and snowberries to offer her. She noticed that whenever she was with him, she was always incredibly lucky. The snow piles she found with him were always soft and fluffy, the random treats she'd stumble upon with him were always delicious, and as a team the two never lost a snowball fight - she'd noticed the snowballs seemed to narrowly miss them every time.

The locals in the peaceful village they lived in also seemed to notice the kitten's mysteriously lucky qualities. His presence was like a lucky charm. Snowstorms and blizzards began veering off course when they inched too close to the town. The locals had a disproportionate amount of winners in the nearby Happy Valley’s scratch card kiosk, with winners going home with bags of neopoints and often hitting the jackpot. Happiness and good fortune spread quickly through the quaint little town, seemingly especially concentrated around the area around the little aisha, who was quickly adored. They eventually began calling him Lunebug for the crescent moon on his forehead.

Though Lunebug and Polaris were inseparable at first, as time went on she longed for her days of solitary adventure. She was oft seen off on her own playing in the snow, spending sunrise till sunset flicking snow around herself like confetti with her tail. But no matter what - without fail - once moonlight fell, Polaris always returned to him at the end of the day. Somehow, she always just knew where he was.

"Follow Polaris," the locals would say when they needed to find Lune. "Follow the North Star."

Neither of them minded, however. They liked being useful to the kind locals who always made sure to leave treats out for the two. She loved the locals, just as she loved the town and loved the snow and loved her carefree days frolicking around.

But at the end of the day... there was truly nothing she loved more than her best friend, Lunebug.
