My jaw dropped as I looked at the destruction around me. My beautiful shop in Central Neopia, The Brass Menagerie, was in ruins once again. Benches were overturned, flowers were uprooted, windows were shattered, walls dripped with paint... I cracked an ironic smile. For three straight weeks I had put up with this invisible gang vandalizing my shop. Not anymore. I knew I'd caught them this time.

I cautiously made my way around the building and looked around. Behind piles of rubble, something was struggling to free itself from my makeshift trap. It kicked and squirmed, protesting unhappily. I smirked and leaned down to get a better look at it.

"So, you're the little ragamuffin that's been roughing up my shop, eh?"

The thing popped its head out and snarled. I almost laughed. The thing was small and green, with a large snout and two floppy ears. It almost seemed too cute to be a snarling delinquent. "I'm Tom," it growled, "and this is my territory! Don't you forget it!"

I grinned. And this whole time I had thought it was a gang, while actually it was only one blumaroo! A blumaroo which, for such a little creature, definetely had an attitude. "Hey, Tom. Why'd you wanna go and do this to my shop?"

Still scowling, it pulled its head back into the trap and wiped its snout with the back of a furry green arm. "Dunno."

I couldn't help feeling sorry for it. With a smile, I lifted up the top of the trap so it could get out. It glared suspiciously. "What are you up to?"

"Go on." I told it. "I'll let you go back to your friends this time. Just don't do it again, ok?"

It stopped for a minute, then wiped its snout again. "...don't have any friends." It muttered.

"Why not?" I asked.

It looked down and sniffled loudly. "Well... it's my tail..." It pointed down at its stubby green tail, which was about half as long as the tail of an ordinary blumaroo. "I can't do anything with it. I can't bounce... I can't even hop... none of the other blumaroos thought I was any fun, so I was all alone..."

"So you decided to become a bully?" I asked.

Tom sniffled again and a little tear rolled down its cheek. "Yeah... I know it's wrong..."

I felt sorry for poor Tom. Attempting to change the subject, I asked, "If you can't bounce... how do you get from place to place?"

Tom's expression brightened. "Like this!" It reached behind its back and pulled out a small, blumaroo-sized skateboard. "I'm good at this!"

I laughed. "Hey, Tom. I like you! We should hang out together!"

Tom grinned awkwardly and wiped its snout. "Cool!"

I shook my head and smiled. "I think you're getting a cold, huh?" I took my red toboggan off my head and put it on Tom's head. The boggan was a little big, and Tom's ears flopped awkwardly out to the side. I giggled at the sight of it, but Tom didn't seem to mind.

"Thanks!" Said Tom. "That feels a lot better!"

The two of us started to walk off. I turned to Tom and said, "You know what? I think you and I are going to make a good pair, little guy."

Tom glared up at me, looking offended. "Hey. Whadda ya mean 'little guy?' I'm a girl!"
