The Flotsam Who Never Could Swim

"Mum, why can't I swim. All the neopets make fun of me at school and I hate swimming lesson because of this" asked Echo1881, looking up at her mum, sadly.

"Well, this was the way you was born. Now, troddle off or you'll be late for school. Don't forget your lunchbox" Told her mum, patting her daughter on her red head. Echo1881 slowly walked off towards the school bus.

"Is this seat taken"? Asked Echo to Lush 607, her best friend.

"Now don't be stupid, of course not. You don't have to ask, just sit beside me from now on. How is Sally and Dimond"? asked Lush, politely

"Well, I broke up with them" She answered, miserable, looking down to her tail with a tear dripping towards it.

"I'd make new friends if I was you. I'm your only friend, hey we better get off for our swimming lessons. Bad luck you won't be able to swim today because we are going to the riverside, yippee"! Smiled Lush. They climbed out and Lush was getting her swimming costume at once.

While the others were having fun splashing the water at each other and throwing balls at each other, Echo relaxed on a red beach chair. All the adults were chatting about what to do tomorrow in the beach house. Then suddenly there came a yelp in the water. Echo noticed Dimond drowning in the deep end of the glittering river. Echo looked around, scrambled up and dived into the river, swimming with all her might and was meters away from Dimond. She started drowning, but managed to pull herself up. She swam with her eyes closed until she felt someone.

She peered through one eye and saw Dimond just right in front of her. She grabbed her and struggled back to shore. It took double the time, but she needed to do this. One of the teachers had spotted Echo swimming and ran to the shore, supporting her. Echo pulled up Dimond when she was on shore and blew her mouth, to keep her breathing. Luckily she was still breathing properly. From that day on everyone wanted to be Echo's best friend and she told everyone the story that she could swim and was happy for life.
