Pet Name: Atils Owner: kiraatwood Breed: Gelert About Atils: "Why, hello there." The little golden dog stares at you, wide-eyed and curious. He tilts his head in confusion as silence bores on. Sighing, he adds, "Look, I know why you're here. You want to listen to the story of how me and Kira first met." You nod sheepishly, grinning a little. "Well, take a seat. I don't like to rush my stories. It all started on an a day much like this one..." * * * It was a chilly morning, and everyone was about on the marketplace. I was shuffling through looking for scraps, as always. And I caught the scent of...bread. My favorite! The scent was coming from the nearby bakery. A fresh loaf was cooling off on the window sill. I snickered at such an easy target for a meal. I leaped up to the window sill and carefully clamped my jaws into the bread. Its heavenly scent was all I could smell, and it was hard not to drool. Swinging my head, I released my grip on the bread, and it landed on the ground with a thump. I soon followed. And just when I thought I was in the clear, the plump Brightvale baker sprinted out of the bakery door, his hand gripping a knife angrily. The baker spotted me and the loaf at once, and started running my way, raging with fury. "Eeep!" I whispered, frozen with fear. It was like I was paralyzed. There was a lump in my throat, sweat on my brow, and my tongue was as dry as ever. It felt like hours as the baker approached, when in truth it was less than a minute. By now the baker was just a few feet away. I shut my eyes, assuming the worst and wondering what death would be like. "Stop! Don't hurt him; I'll pay for the bread. Just leave him alone!" Ever so slowly, I opened my eyes. I wasn't dead. Standing in front of me was a young woman. She had short strands of brown hair, and her big brown eyes were on the verge of tears. The baker was in complete shock, but after a long pause, he answered, "A-Alright. Pay up, then. And get that mangy mutt out of my sight!" The woman nodded graciously, and handed the baker the money. She then swept me up and plucked me away as quickly as she arrived. I struggled and whined helplessly, but it was useless. I looked up into the woman's eyes. Patience was all I could see, and I stopped stuggling at once. Resting my head in her arms, I looked up and whispered, "Thank you." She smiled and merely answered, "Everyone needs a second chance." * * * And ever since then I've been living happily with Kira, and always will be. Sometimes people just need a second chance.
