About Auguris:
"...Auguris?"

I started, blinking up into the worried brown eyes of my mother. "...Hm?"

"Are you okay?"

I shrugged, hair rippling down my back in iridescent waves. My anxious mother pointed at the crystal ball I held in my hands, hands that were trembling and shaky. "What's wrong with you, Augie? Ever since you got that ball thing you've been ignoring everyone else just to stare into it!"

Was I? I peered into the ball, seeing the purple mist swirling inside, taunting me, beckoning me to reveal their depths. "...See! I told you! You've already started ignoring me!"

But I couldn't answer my mother, because the purple mist was calling to me, revealing their hidden treasure...

A hand touched my shoulder and I jerked, the crystal ball flying out of my hands. I was panting, eyes wide and hair spiky in agitation; I could see the scene flashing before me --- the fire, the destruction, the laughter ---

"AUGIE!"

My mother was there, eyes frightened and worried, and I couldn't help but see those eyes weary, torn, blank ---

I shook myself from these thoughts, and peered pleadingly up at my mother. "Don't go tonight, mum."

My mother blinked. She obviously knew what I was talking about, but she was scared and frightened --- for me. I felt slightly guilty I had caused such trouble for her, knowing how important her meeting was. But I had to warn her. "Don't go, mum. Please."

"Why?" Her voice was soft, kind; I wanted her to understand how badly she couldn't go, but I couldn't; the words stuck in my throat, choking. I shook my head fiercely and just buried my head in her chest.

Her arms wrapped around me, surprised, and I started crying, the tears leaking through my fur. Her arms stayed warped around mine, soothing, until I had cried myself to exhaustion.

The next morning I awoke, cold, the sticky trail of tears itching at my cheeks. My throat clogged up in despair when I saw no mother in the bedroom, the silence aching and forbidding. Where was she? Did she go to the meeting?

The television on the radio was on, the Aisha Reporter talking animatedly to the screen while gesturing to the great conflagration behind her. I couldn't breathe --- it was the building, and I was scared ---

"...a mysterious fire erupted along the corner of Main Street in Neopia; it's suspected that this was indeed arson, and not anything accidental. However, let us be thankful that no one was inside when the fire started; apparently, there was to be a meeting within the very building burning, but they had cancelled. Coincidence...?"

I sat down on the edge of my bed, breath catching in gasps. She hadn't gone! She hadn't!

The door opened, and my mother came in, eyes tired. "Augie?"

"MUM!"

My mother barely caught me as I rushed her, relief running through my body.

"Augie... Augie... I'm safe, I'm fine..."

I was laughing in slight hysteria, and my mother started laughing as well, our breaths shaky and slightly maniacal. "You're fine, you didn't go..."

"No, I didn't, dear." My mother hugged me gently, eyes glad. "I called up last night and told that we wouldn't meet today. Whatever you saw, I'm glad."

She hugged me again, harder, and smiled at me. "Whatever that ball did, I'm glad. You can keep that crazy thing of yours, Augie. If it helps."

She held out the unharmed crystal ball, purple mists drifting gently.

I took it from her, reverently, and smiled. "Thanks, mum."
