Koi Day Special!

Let's Celebrate Koi Day!
by voiceprint

Oh boy, oh boy!
It’s finally time to celebrate the Koi!
For today it is their special day.
Hooray, hooray!

This adorable Maraquan native
Is fun, friendly, and creative.
They spend their days laughing and swimming,
And their friends can always be found brimming!

The Koi also love to explore,
Seeking new places is no chore!
They often find some hidden treasures,
Such as pearls and gems beyond measure!

It’s true: Koi are such fabulous Neopets!
So go befriend one, if you haven’t yet.
So let us celebrate the Koi today,
Hooray, Hooray!

A day in the life of Karpoh the Koi
by a_ramsell

The little blue Koi
Darts quickly down
To the Maraquan ruins
Where treasure can be found.

This industrious Koi, Karpoh,
Just wants to impress his friends.
He thinks gathering gold for them
Will be a means to that end.

He glances around
And quickly spots
The shiny treasure
His friends want.

Karpoh darts forward,
His eye on the prize,
When seemingly, out of nowhere
Looms a creature twice his size!

The small Koi circles back
And positions himself behind a bubble.
He shoves it forward, hard
Hoping this will get him out of trouble.

The dangerous Jetsam
Cries out in anguish,
And Karpoh sighs with relief
As his foe is vanquished.

The clever Koi soldiers on,
Mulling over the puzzle.
Diligently he maneuvers
Bubble after bubble.

Finally, he's done it!
After giving it his best,
He pushes his golden treasure
Into the waiting chest.

Karpoh gives a silent cheer,
Because he knows the day is won.
But little Karpoh also knows
A treasure-hunting Koi's work is never done.

The Ghost Koi
by guddi6

In waters lost to Neopian maps
Where ships can chart no course,
Amidst deep and churning secret waves
And fermenting water's force;
There dwells a creature, phantom-like
In the depths of ocean's heart,
With eyes of crimson, beacon-bright
Marred by memories of a sorry past.

As mythical as her watery haunt
An enigma like her home,
Transculent fins catch silky waves
And iridescent, she roams.
A silvered teal, like cold blue sky
They call her ghost (beware!)
With eerie grace she parts the seas
And wanders through nowhere.

Who knows what misery shadows the past,
What deeds she's done and seen
Who knows what she carries in those eyes
Or who she once had been.
They whisper of those waters which
Explorers are yet to coast,
And they tell of a dark and lonely soul
Who returned a shadowy ghost.

The Koi Pond
by miraday

The horizon glows, the sun setting
Signals the end of this summer evening.
I peer down into the stony pond as
I balance like a blade of grass,
A distorted reflection on the surface;
I do not know him any less.
I reach to touch the submerged face,
The cold water greets me like an intruder.
Beneath the tender waves swim three Koi,
Darting like comets between hiding places.
One is ruby and purple, another green
And gold. The last one is grey and blue,
They twirl like my own Rainbow Swirly Thing.
The pond is the locket they cannot escape.
A brook bubbles its meandering way through—
Indeed the Koi are here of their own fate.
I run my hands against the current,
Just the way I’ve seen Nereid do it,
Still the Koi seem out of reach.
No matter how swift or in what position,
Shallow or deep, benthic coast or creek,
They evade me effortlessly like intuition.
I pull my hand out of the water.
The Kois’ rippled reflections look clearer.
Sometimes it’s easier to see yourself in others.
Then, the three Koi approach, eyes turned up.
A salty teardrop dives into the pond like an invitation—
“Why do you stay here?” I ask without reservation.

The first Koi emerged to respond,
“I stay in this location for pride—
I am the big fish in the small pond.”

The second Koi followed suit and said,
“I stay here because I know not else—
This pond is certain, though a deadend.”

Finally, the third Koi joined with a splash,
“I remain for its unrivaled beauty—
The unknown is ugly and full of feedback.”

I try to cup the pond water in my hands.
The water sifts smoothly through the cracks.
“Water moves— doesn’t it? It doesn’t stay too long,
Or when it does, you get a stagnant, lonely pond.
I stay here because of those three reasons.
I know I’m mossy rock, sinking.
I need to swim again back out to sea—
Then I would be free, as should you three!”
Their scales glisten under the moonlight,
They litter the bed of their outgrown pond
So much so, it looks like reflected starlight.
There isn’t enough visibility to discern my reflection,
Who I feel admirably looking back at me.
The Koi rummage the mudbanks and return
To hand me a smooth, mossless stone upturned.
The middle one speaks, “You will never sink
With friends to place you back on your feet.”

That night, I do not sleep.
I am locked too deep into a dream.
Once, I become the smallest Koi in the ocean,
Then, the unfamiliar waters flood around me
And I cannot breathe, I cannot breathe.
On my final gasp of air, I am lifted suddenly
By the enormous fin of a Rainbow Koi, raising
Me above the sea and into daylight do I bask.
The sun becomes my eyes; though I am blind,
I am the most beautiful thing that cannot be seen.

The morning sun trickles into my dream,
All the world dissipates like make-believe.
The smooth stone is in my hands, still,
And I run down to the Koi Pond to tell
My friends how real it felt!—
To dream! To feel—

Gone.
The pond is empty. The Koi are gone.
I sit on the muddy banks, blankly.
They finally did it. They moved on.
They, too, saw their reflection in me.
Oh, you three—
You knew it was time to leave.
And now the pond is just empty.
I’m compelled to skip the stone across the rink.
I saw it skip thrice— but it did not sink.
The pond is empty, but perhaps they’re not gone.
Water tends to move and not stay for too long.
They were ready to break free of this pond—

Me, too. I am finally ready to move on.

He's the goalkeeper for Maraqua.
Standing in the net, large and pink,
He's pretty impressive, don't you think?

Oi, oi, oi!
Did you hear about the Koi?
Full of curiosity,

Working for the pirates, delivering them treasure,

Kendra's Trip to the Altador Cup
by ennyra

Swimming the waters of Maraqua all day long,
Kendra the Koi never left her home.
Each morning would start like a brand new song,
But each night would hit full of boredom.

This year, she decided, would bring anew,
As she would swim off to lands unknown.
The Altador Cup was attended by a crew,
Of faithful fans, loyal to the bone.

The closer the day came, the more excited she got,
As she met up with her fellow travelers.
Swimming in packs through waters cold and hot,
Was something that's always been a dream of hers.

Dressed in her finest greens and blues,
Kendra prepared for the journey.
She was ready to see all of the hues,
Of the teams involved in this tourney.

They finally arrived to the shores of Altador,
Amazed by what stood in front of the pack.
This new adventure was so much more,
Than Kendra ever dreamed of, thinking back.

Under the Sea
by drkshark

Life in Maraqua's plenty
Of fun for us cheerful Kois.
Splashing about day by day,
A water utopia to enjoy!

Happy to swim around, collecting trinkets,
Shiny things which catch our eye,
And when it comes to making friends,
We easygoing Kois are never shy.

Though famous Kois may be few in numbers,
For those of us that are more athletic,
We have a great role model
In AC goalie Tonie Plessix.

And under King Kelpbeard's rule,
Kois have thrived and flourished,
And you'll find no other fish
That are so kind to tourists!

There is word of a Koi who lives on land,
Taking care of her Fanciful Fauna shop,
And though we've never met before,
She'd be kind and patient, of that I'm sure.

So you see, low ranking though we may be
In terms of Neopets popularity,
Kois make the best of what they have,
And soak up each day under the sea.

Royal Kois, So Ravishing
by _brainchild_

Those Royal Kois are oh so sweet---
Their grandeur is divine,
And majesty is such a feat!
I'd love to make one mine.

The boy has such a gorgeous crown
Composed of coral limbs.
His cape, the softest one around,
Is regal, never dim.

His amulet, a pearl so black,
Exudes a royal air.
The seaweed draped across his back
Is grandiose to bear!

The girl's tiara is so great,
As is her amulet.
No better pearls, as of late,
Are what my eyes have met.

Her cape, composed of scales from many
Mermaids oh so dear,
Is such a dazzling treat to plenty
Eyes from far to near.

Someday, a Royal Koi so grand
Will join my family.
Their looks are gorgeous, never bland,
Emitting majesty.

Koi Day Haikus
by okayls

Still waters disrupt'd
Koi! swimming quickly, swiftly;
early summer sun.

Early summer's hue:
warm blue waters; jade pond-plants;
Koi-koi, dance, koi-koi.

Koi-koi, play, koi-koi.
Race swiftly, swim gracefully;
summer wind shakes leaves.

Summer wind shake leaves
in thunderstorms; Koi surface.
Still waters disrupt'd.

History of Koi
by hannahcreep

Is that a fish over there
Grinning at me?
No, it’s a Koi!
I think he’s friendly.

Koi are friendly pets,
No doubt about it!
Unfortunately, I do not have one.
I have no time to commit.

Koi are native to Maraqua,
The city under the sea.
From what I hear from the Koi,
It’s the place to be!

Ever heard of Utility Fish?
They’re fish that can transform into anything,
From spoons to beds to bean bag chairs.
An invention from a Koi that was well-meaning.

There are many famous Kois in neopia,
As well as the one mentioned above.
Like Karpoh, the Koi from Raiders of Maraqua
Who has treasure as his love.

I could go on forever about Koi,
The very exclusive pet.
But why don’t you go adopt one yourself?
It’ll be something you won’t regret!

Adam's Koi Day!
by she_chose_love

Adam the Aisha loved the idea of swimming,
he longed to be in the sea.
It was his dream to spend his days,
splashing around as happy as can be.

The only thing standing in the way,
was the fact that Aishas cannot swim.
Even though Adam tried from time to time,
by jumping into lakes and oceans on a whim.

The only way for Adam,
to achieve his dream.
Was to get a Koi Morphing Potion,
and then drink it with an excited scream.

Adam knew on Koi Day,
new morphing potions would come out.
So he waited patiently,
watching the news to see what it would be about.

Right on schedule,
like every Koi Day before.
The new morphing potions will be released,
and Adam will rush to Kauvaras Magic Store.

He will wait in line,
for as long as it takes.
To finally make his dream come true,
it will be more exciting than winning a sweepstakes!

We all know Adam,
will enjoy Koi Day this year.
Enjoy the celebrations,
on this special day filled with cheer!

Koi Day
by o_babypet4me_o

'Just keep swimming' I hear them say.
The smell of cake gives it away.
I hear the whispers of familiar voices,
I hope these presents are good choices.

A surprise party just for me,
My friends have joined me in the sea.
They are able to breath from a faeries spell,
Which was so nice of the queen, she sure is swell.

I get closer and they yell 'SURPRISE'
The tears they appear in my eyes.
Friends from years are in front of me,
Friends and family are all I see.

There's cakes and presents and a brand new toy,
My best friend swims passed " Happy Birthday old Koi"
We eat and laugh and laugh and eat,
Then a glass is tapped and the Queen stands on to her feet.

"Friends and family and the birthday Koi,
we hope today you did enjoy.
Thank you for your loyal support,
from the fearies and all at court.

Before you all go back to your home,
We have a surprise for all the love you have shown."
The Queen then said a revealing spell.
"These are your prizes for battling, you're happy, I can tell."

This by far is the best birthday of all,
I could have first pick then could choose four more.
"Thank you everyone for this wonderful day,
I'll see you next year for another birthday"
