Mutant Madness
by missynom

In the darkest depths of Neopia are the pets feared for their colour
They are loathed, avoided and ignored, no one loves them but their mother
Or so things used to be until a brave Neopian discovered,
Mutant pets are just as fun as some of the more attractive others.

They are just as smart and just as tough,
Though some are cuddly and some are rough
Some are slimey and some are scaled,
Some have horns and some have tails
But the thing all mutants have in common
Is that once you start, you can't stop at just one.

So when you're looking through the pound next time,
On that hunt for your new best buddy
Don't overlook the mutant pets
Cos to them, it's YOU that looks funny!

Wiser Than The Rest
by flufflepuff

They believe they are wise,
The ones who avoid
The potions which seek
A nose to destroy--

But foul smell alone
Is not what they fear.
One gulp of said potion,
A new form is near.

A form which is said
To be cherished the least,
Of monster, or mutant,
Or half-thinking beasts.

Two Neopets claimed
Otherwise, were thought mad.
But they were convinced
There were skills to be had.

No shared land, acquaintance,
Or bond did they know,
But both were convinced
There wouldn’t be woe.

One Neopet was desert-black,
Six-legged, like his kind.
The other, four-eared, Faerie blue,
Had higher goals in mind.

The former held a browning flask,
Antennae twitched within.
He held his breath and gulped it down--
Glass splintered into pins.

The latter gave her wings a flap.
Finality. Goodbye.
And downed the flask with fangéd grin.
She would no longer fly.

A clicking-clack of mandibles,
Snap-snaps of newfound claws
Were intermixed with hissing cries
From newly sideways jaws.

At once, a fluttering, a leap
Away from distant ground.
In drinking to transmogrify,
A new freedom he’d found.

Across Neopia a shriek
Of joy chilled the entrails
Of those unlucky to be close
To one new mutant’s wails.

She barreled through a wooden door,
Not dainty now, but fierce.
She ripped a fruit from its home tree,
New teeth ready to pierce.

What a strange sensation! For
Down one bite of the ear,
The fruit did travel down her head
And seemed to disappear.

Their transformation brought unheard-of
Capabilities,
From iron wings to eating through
The ears—such rarity!

Therefore, let no one be a wall
To any seeker’s quest.
The mutant ones who persevered,
They’re wiser than the rest.

Mutant-tastrophe!
by bella20216

Speckled and purple and mutants, oh my!
I take one look, and I just about cry.

The mutant comes closer and no, I can't look.
One little step and that booger just shook!

He gives me a wink and offers a smile
I see from his mouth, dripping some bile.

Mutants are filthy and mutants are gross,
but they're not so bad, just don't get so close!

He spun round and round, and what do you know?
This ol guy is putting on a show!

He danced and leapt and cried out with glee,
I may be funny-looking,
but thou shalt not judge me!

He twirled and spun and jumped in the air,
this mutant had talent, and say it, I dare!

My fellow friends, listen to what I say.
Do not judge mutants, even though they seem stray.

The friendliest hearts and the sweetest of intention,
all they need is a little tooth decay prevention!

The Mutant Draik’s Plight
by choquis

Crawling scales and tattered wings,
the Draik’s a rather ugly thing.
Piercing eyes of amber hue,
what’s the sordid thing to do?

Faerie pets with glistening hair,
further drive the Draik’s despair.
Babies all as soft as silk,
and White Kacheeks as pure as milk.

The lowly mutant stands alone,
on feet all cracked and creaking bones.
Admiring what he’ll never be,
desiring a bright beauty.

Yet, standing by the vile ‘pet,
she reassures him not to fret.
For, even with his exposed skull,
to her, no ‘pet’s more wonderful.

Mew! Mew! Mutant Kadoatie!
by tallydepp

Mew! Mew! Mutant Kadoatie!
Whatever happened to you?
You look different from the other Kads.
Aren't you supposed to be cute?

Other Kadoaties, they smile and look coy,
Peering up through their pleading eyes,
Though granted they'll keep you awake half the night
With their hungry, plaintive cries.

Mew! Mew! Mutant Kadoatie!
Your cry is more of a screech.
A discordant yowl that pierces the eardrums
Of all Neopians you meet.

Your coat is all matted, your fur has no sheen!
Your paws are clawed and will scratch in a flash.
Your yellowed teeth look like weapons too,
And your eyes are clearly mismatched!

Mew! Mew! Mutant Kadoatie!
On you I've begun to take pity.
Tis not your fault you look such a fright.
To be loved you don't have to be pretty!

With your gargatuan eye and spiky tail,
You're the stuff of nightmares rather than dreams.
But I'll take you home and love you forever,
And feed you all the foods that you need!
