Swimming in a little pond is a Koi
This little pond is his house
It's small but the water is clean
He shall always protect it, he vows

In his house there is loads of plants
Offering him cover, gorgeous greens
The sunlight falling on their leaves
Creates a beautiful scene

But the Koi needs his friends
Travel between ponds is no small feat
Whenever the weather is right
He hops over to other ponds, to meet

Sometimes his friends come over, too
The Koi would clean all-day
To make sure that his little pond
Is perfect in its best way

Beautiful little grey pebbles 
The water, shimmering clear
Soft rays of sunlight on top
This is the pond the Koi holds dear

Skater Koi

Skater Koi, with his love yearning true,

Prissy Peophin, with her loyal kin,
They voiced concern, their judgment clear:
Skater Koi's punk rock attire they blamed,
This Peophin should refuse to settle for less.

Time spun its web, years danced on by,
And Prissy Peophin with a wandering eye
Caught news of Skater Koi's punk-rock fame,
And booked tickets to the Arena, longing aflame.

With anticipation, she watched him perform,
The Skater Koi's radiance, oh how it shone!
No longer bound by judgments or external strife,
She embraced her destiny, rewriting her life.

But Skater Koi now with another, a twist unkind!
A rockstar Jetsam, guitar in hand,
Their harmonies entwined, their fins together swirled
Because they now rocked each other’s world.

Treasure Hunting With Kois

In Maraqua there is hidden treasure galore,
In sunken ships and on the ocean floor.
Who better to search and explore,
Than Kois, who avoid the shore!

Underwater is their home,
For hours they can roam.
They spot gems and pearls,
And spin in victory twirls!

True Maraquan natives,
They know where to look,
In ruins and sea cave nooks!

Effortlessly they swim,
Doing tricks on a whim.
For Kois also love to play,
And sometimes their focus strays!

Treasure is exciting,
But the water is inviting,
So sometimes Kois take breaks,
But never forgetting what's at stake.

There is treasure to be found,
Gold and doubloons by the pound.
So go exploring with a koi -
It's an adventure you'll enjoy!

The Koi that Leapt Over the Waterfall

According to an ancient legend
A Koi who leaps over a waterfall
Will transform into a golden Draik
Soaring with claws, wings, and all

A young Koi heard this story
And sought to prove his strength
He practiced jumping every day
And swam upstream for great lengths

For twenty days and twenty nights
He pushed past his own limits
Dreaming to fly above the clouds
With wings earned from his own merits

The day finally came for him to make
His leap up the waterfall
He stared up, trembling, in much awe
At the towering, torrential wall

With a splash of his fins and a whip of his tail
He made his upward swim
Fighting through the great deluge
His chances looking slim

When finally, he reached the top
And leapt up through the air
Finally! The moment came!
Would magic answer his prayer?

Alas, he splashed down, swept away
Carried down and untransformed
Was the legend fake? He wondered
While around him, the waters stormed

Then the realization dawned on him
He realized it with joy
He didn’t need Draik wings to fly
He did it, as a Koi!

Life of a Koi Warrior

Every day I swim over to the 'Dome
I put in the hours, sweat to the bone
I battle it out for hours at a time
By the time the sun sets, I'm feeling just fine

It's been a good day, I feel strong and well
Despite the defeats that inevitably fell
A good spar can be its own reward to me
But to my opponent some spoils I will cede

Codestones, of course, are a must as we know
For how else will we continue to grow
But through dedication and training with care
That is how our minds and bodies prepare

Although I don't have Nerkmids in my stash
(Those are unique to the Cosmic Dome, alas)
I hope you'll still come and seek me out
If you'd like to have a fun and quick bout

"So my little friend, shall we begin?"
I heft my Trident of Poseidon
Make your move, if you so dare
Then suddenly across my vision, a Lens Flare

I squint my eyes to try to see past the light
But suddenly they're calling the end of the fight
I'm flat on my back, when did that happen?
Like a good sport, I call, "Until we meet again!"

Over and over, this is my day
It's a bit disorienting, in a way
Sometimes I feel a little BORED
Swinging endlessly with my ice sword

But at the end of the day, I enjoy what I do
It's an honour to fight and train with all of you
I will improve and become even more skilful and strong
And in me the glory of Maraqua shall live on

Like the Rainbow Pool,

These Koi are magic,

Flavours so yummy,
But not for the tummy!

In schools across the sea,
A family just for me!

The creature underwater
starting cold, and getting hotter
scales refracting light
catching only a glimpse of the sight
as they speed around rocks
jumping up to see people at docks

Koi come swimming through the coral
Even undersea is floral
to celebrate Koi day
which is exactly the way
swimmers prefer
their ardour

These Maraquan natives
so special to have their own creatives
from Karpoh searching for treasure
to Tonie Plessix blocking yooyu balls beyond measure
scales that shimmer in ocean blue
what better a friend for you

The Lonely Koi

A Blue Koi swam in a pond.
Swimming made him very fond.
As he swam he saw a sight.
This sight seemed gloomy and not bright.

It was a Ghost Koi that seemed real sad.
Perhaps the Blue Koi should make him glad?
He swam real close and held out a fin.
“Are you alright my ghostly friend?”

The Ghost Koi slowly looked ahead.
Others were swimming which gave him dread.
“I’m never invited with that group.
They won’t let me join their very fun troop.”

He could believe what he heard.
A thought then began to stir.
“Come with me, I do not mind.
Let’s go for a swim so you can shine.”

The Ghost Koi began to slowly smile.
He had not done this for quite a while.
He had found a friend that truly cared.
His loneliness had been finally spared.

The Baby Koi Swims

Eek.
A Baby Koi trembles
as he faces the vast sea
As a newbie swimmer
from Tyrannia’s jungle
there’s much uncertainty

Pat pat.
His owner stands beside him
“You can do it, just swim….!”
she says with a soft voice.
The Koi takes a deep breath 
suddenly filled with poise.

Splash!
the Koi leaps into the blue
through Maraqua he swims
as fast as he can, with
his flowy little, eager fins 

Squint.
Unexpectedly salty water
sting this swimmer’s eyes
but the underwater realm
has the Baby Koi mesmerized
til he had to return ashore. 

HOORAY! Huzzah!
The little Koi did it!
His green eyes want to 
shed some happy tears
Now he knows what 
swimming in Maraqua’s like
and wants to freely do so 
throughout the years.

The Koi King's Lesson

You see, Kelpbeard thinks he is rather clever
to make a puppet out of seaweed and whatever
that resembles Isca's iconic flowing hair.
He whips his trident to and fro with care
while his magic orb dims and glows,
his face lit with delight below
the coral arched hidden chambers
behind his throne where he labours.

This year, he decided, for Maraquan Victory Day
to celebrate with all his people in a new way
by giving them a lovely little show
with his favourite pet Marafins in tow
to reenact some of his favourite bits
of Garin and those other wonderous misfits,
but with puppets for all his Koidom to admire
and see his newfound passion all afire.

King Kelpbeard, of course, in his infinite wisdom
understands that puppets challenge the system,
to teach us young Kois brave lessons
and leaves on us quite an impression.
Through retelling his past errors,
he too can become his own repairer
by acknowledging that even a Koi King
is not above meeting a downswing.

So when you sit out in the audience today
in front of his bejewelled staged archway
after his falsetto cracks when Caylis has a vision
and his fins become riddled with indecision
following audience giggles as they remiss,
young Koi, please remember this: 
hope even when it isn't wise
because some curses are gifts in disguise.

The Coy Koi (Koi day)

May sing you a song - a melody
It’s an honour to hear, her voice so pure
Many spend months preparing to tour
the vast ocean in search of her
Rumours are it’s too big to explore

It’s not that she’s a tease 
I implore, listen to my plea
Her shy nature, her modesty
All comes from her life at sea
The waters are uneasy, I’m afraid they’re rough 
This little Koi’s life has been tough

Despite all the trouble she’s gone through

A real beauty, a treasure, a saint

This Koi became quite a recluse.
With pen & paper he found solace,
& stories flowed without an excuse!

He was known as grandfather of stories & 
Became accustomed to a life of seclusion.
His body was old yet his brain stayed sharp,
Amongst all the Maraquan chaos & confusion.

He wrote of Maraqua's past,
& all of the destruction that ensued,
His stories were collected in a book,
That many Neopians pursued.

The Koi's stories were renowned,
For their creativity & ingenuity,
For he had a quite unique perspective,
And his books live on in perpetuity.

Though he may have been small,
His talent was never underestimated,
For he showed power with a pen,
& how stories could be celebrated!

And so he continued to write,
With his whisker-like eyebrows furrowed,
For he found peace in his craft,
& in his own world he now burrowed.

Karpoh the Koi

Finding treasure is his passion,
When he finds it he goes to pirates to cash in,
Bravery is his middle name,
His abilities have brought him fame!

Always looking to impress his pirate bosses,
If he's coming for your treasure you may as well give it and cut your losses,
Easily able to navigate any obstacles course,
Ambition is his greatest motivation source!

Growing up an orphan he has much to be proud of,
If he needs to capture the treasure there are bubbles he can shove,
He needs to make sure that the enemies don't see him,
Otherwise the situation will begin to look grim! 

One day he hopes to join the pirate crew,
For now he has to wait in the queue,
Luckily he keeps himself quite busy,
Running around collecting treasure and making his enemies dizzy!

When will she be back?

On all their food eaten away,

The Koi Warrior

Of all my Battledome challengers,
the Koi Warrior’s toughest to beat
It only takes a turn or two
until I silently admit defeat
When I test my fighting prowess 
in the Koi’s Dome of the Deep
I end up feeling small and weak
that it is sometimes hard to sleep

I wonder what his secrets are?
How often does this Maraquan train?
What battle secrets hide in his 
quick and strategic brain?
I surely am convinced that his
life’s anything but mundane
for a fierce Battledome star
must never really get bored
Today especially, the Koi Warrior 
shan’t be forgotten or ignored
If I work just as hard as him, then
one day, I may reap some rewards.

Fanciful Fauna

Owned by a Koi who’s quiet, but wise.
You’re greeted with a smile; your ears, the joy
Of the Fanciful Fauna surrounding this Koi.

The Petpets you find there are very unique,

Ahoy! Ahoy! Today there be Koi!
With so many of them to enjoy!
The most splendrous kind of fish! 
In every way you wish!

The Koi went down to the docks,
to the Petpet store that really rocks!
To look for a friendly companion,
the like which would never abandon!

Little Nippers was to name,
the Petpet shop that put others to shame!
When he got there he saw a cofferling,
which made his heart swing!

He decided it was time for a Petpet,
and he took the Cofferling he just met!
It was the best Petpet in the world,
to match the best fishy type, to be sure!

When he got home, there was some trouble,
which was fixed on the double!
The Cofferling lost its ring,
which was the most precious treasure in the thing!

He used his glasses to find it,
and soon, he was strong to wit!
The ring was saved for his friend,
who would stick by him 'til the end!

The Cofferling, you see, was made of treasure,
which made him quite popular to be sure!
His ring was the pick of the litter,
Proving to be gold which glittered!

It had been growing late,
and the Koi did not frustrate!
He closed his eyes as his friend went to sleep,
and his treasure he did keep!
Their bond did strongly leap,
and they started to snore when they were done counting sheep!

Koi's Treasure Hunt

On the ocean currents the Koi flow,
Heading down into the dark waters below,
Their fins shake, a sense of trouble,
Their breath heavy, bubble after bubble,
The team of six exchange a set of glances,
To achieve greatness one must take chances,
A nervous smile, a flutter of the tail,
The pace quickens, into dark water they sail.

Down further than even where Maraqua sits,
Eyeing two huge cliffs where a chasm splits,
A school of Dartail swim out to the east,
Unaware that the chasm is a treasure feast,
The Koi swim in, one after the next,
Down the narrow passage, now feeling vexed,
The walls grow thinner, but soon open out,
An enormous cavern time went on without.

Down beneath the Koi only a black abyss,
And at the bottom, they believe they'll find bliss,
Their fins once again quiver, danger near,
A picked up pace, into the darkness they tear,
On the edge of the hole a Jawshell is sat,
The Koi speed on, no time for a chat,
Their eyes adjust, darkness now fading,
Further down, the Koi begin waning.

A sparkle emits from the floor of the cave,
In their eyes, the treasure they crave,
Chest after chest, the Koi take one each,
Scooping it up to take back to the beach,
Their tails flap as they ascend the cave,
Their powerful strides creating a wave,
Eager to open the treasure they've found,
Up to the surface they hurriedly bound.

The water grows clear, beyond it the beach,
Up to the sand, the Koi now reach,
Warmed by the sun, they look at the treasure,
Eyes growing wide, no longer feeling pleasure,
A tongue and fangs stick out from the box,
The Koi cry out, feelings of shock,
For a treasure it wasn't, instead a Petpet,
A group of Cofferling, they'd rather not have met!

His scales shimmered, reflecting the sun's embrace,
A symbol of joy, in this enchanting place.
He embraced his new form, his heart full of glee,
An Usul no more, but a Koi swimming free.

With each leap and dive, he celebrated the day,
In the company of Koi, in their graceful display.
He found his belonging, a sense of elation,
An Usul turned Koi, a wondrous transformation.

So, on the Day of the Koi, let us remember,
The Usul's tale, a moment to treasure.
